I agree that nose breathing will not sure all problems; however, it is interesting to see how important Catlin thought it was after having an extended period of interaction with native Americans.

I've found that you can also download the book here: http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/indians.pdf if you are interested.

Also thanks for the new word. I had not heard of Pediatric Otolaryngology before.

10/14/10
I became familiar with George Catlin when working as a medical assistant at Children's Hospital in Denver. Dr. Stool, who was known as the father of Pediatric Otolaryngology (ENT) was a big fan of George Catlin. He often told us about Catlin and his book Shut your Mouth and Save Your Life. I was glad to see the book is still in print. I can tell you that if a child is sleep-deprived due to mouth-breathing they can have behavior problems. However, other issues may also be factors. This is not a cure-all. It is definitely worth checking out and better than having a child put on medication, provided medication is not necessary. Thanks!
